General_Local11June 23, 2011 - UNITE HERE Local 11 and the Anaheim Hilton hotel reached a tentative contract agreement this week that includes continued family healthcare and raises for the some 700 hotel workers.

“We are very happy to have settled such a great contract,” said Adrianna de Martinez, an Anaheim Hilton housekeeper. “We are grateful to management for understanding our needs and respecting us enough to agree to a deal that is fair for both sides.

UNION CAMPAIGN RESEARCHER 

UNITE HERE Local 11 is recruiting a full-time Campaign Researcher to conduct research, develop strategy, and move campaigns to win justice for low wage workers.  This is an entry level position available in Los Angeles in early-mid April.

UNITE HERE is known throughout the labor movement for innovative and effective campaigns utilizing corporate campaign strategies and impressive grassroots mobilization of workers and community allies to win justice for low-wage workers in the service-sector (specifically, in hotels, gaming, food service, laundry and apparel manufacturing and retail). Through organizing and winning good contracts, UNITE HERE members have made hundreds of thousands of traditionally low-wage jobs into good, family-sustaining, middle class jobs. In their bitter fight to bring down the Mouse, Disneyland Resort hotel workers have gotten a new loud-mouthed champion: Roseanne Barr.

The comedian/national-anthem-destroyer stars in a video produced by labor union UNITE HERE Local 11 that accuses Disney of "stealing from widows and orphans," and urges Academy Award members to not vote for Toy Story 3 as Best Picture of the Year (though it's probably a little late for that--the Oscars are on Sunday).

In a new video released today, comedian Roseanne Barr declared her support for Disneyland hotel workers who for three years have been fighting drastic cuts to their healthcare.  Watch the video: http://youtu.be/7-L-Hb32VfQ

“It’s not right to call someplace the happiest place on earth when you’re slashing workers’ health benefits,” said the Emmy-winning actress. “That’s not a magical kingdom kind of thing to do.”

Taking a break from filming her new Lifetime reality show, Barr sat down with long-time friend Clam Lynch for a mock therapy session. Lynch’s character, “Micky Mouth” sought advice on how to climb Disney’s corporate ladder and curry favor with executives. Instead Barr recommends the sycophant re-examine his moral position.

OC Register: Disney Workers Sue Over ID-Threft Print E-mail

Disney employees filed a class-action lawsuit against the company claiming that employee identification cards expose them to identity-theft risk. A Disney official had yet to comment about the federal lawsuit, filed Tuesday morning in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, as of 11:30 a.m.

The Walt Disney Co. issues ID cards that are encoded with Social Security numbers, which violates California law, according to the lawsuit. The codes can be read by most cellular phones, including the Apple iPhone and Android devices, according to employees.
